Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation PT Pertamina and Eni have signed an integrated memorandum of understanding (MoU) including in the downstream sector, namely the potential for environmentally friendly refinery development and trade business opportunities, both oil and gas and other products.

The signing was carried out by Nicke Widyawati, Managing Director, Pertamina, and Giuseppe Ricci, Chief Refining and Marketing Officer, Eni, and witnessed by BUMN Minister Rini M Soemarno, at Porto Marghera, Venice, Italy on 21 September 2018.

In 2014, Eni cooperated with Pertamina on the conversion of a conventional refinery into a biorefinery in Porto Marghera.

"We will explore the potential for similar conversions for the development of refineries in Dumai and Plaju, given the refinery is adjacent to the source of green-fuel raw materials, namely palm oil,” said Widyawati.

Eni has been operating in Indonesia since 2001, conducting exploration and production in the Jangkrik field. The field started operation in 2017 with 55% ownership in the Muara Bakau block.
