ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell among potential buyers of Shell’s US chemicals assets

The assets include four facilities across Louisiana, Texas, and Pennsylvania, which produce chemicals for various industries, such as pharmaceuticals, cleaning products, and plastic production. The assets include the Monaca complex in Pennsylvania, which produces 1.6 million tpy of polymers, and began operations in 2022.
Other companies have also expressed interest in the assets, such as the investment firm Apollo and Kuwait Petroleum among the bidders.
The potential sale reflects Shell’s broader strategy to refocus on upstream oil and gas production, with the sale of its onshore wind and solar power business to TotalEnergies earlier in 2026.
Shell has declined to comment directly on the matter at the time of writing.
