Wood, the global consulting and engineering company, has appointed Josh Carmichael as Vice President of Hydrogen to further strengthen its commitment to accelerating the global energy transition and providing the blend of technical solutions required to deliver a net-zero future.

To meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and in anticipation of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), many of the world’s largest economies and leading companies are transitioning to a more sustainable energy system using clean energy sources including hydrogen.

Josh brings extensive knowledge of hydrogen having held several senior positions, most recently with Transdev in the Netherlands and the South Australian Government, where he developed its green hydrogen investment roadmap.

In this newly created role, Josh will lead Wood’s global hydrogen drive, working with clients, industry partners and government authorities to develop the growing hydrogen sector. Working closely with colleagues based in key hydrogen markets, Josh will bring together Wood’s existing hydrogen expertise to position the company as a partner of choice for developing strategic and impactful hydrogen projects around the world.

“With interest in hydrogen gaining global momentum, Josh’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Wood. We have a clear strategy to stay at the forefront of the clean hydrogen revolution with the right technology, people and partnerships.

“As a leader in hydrogen production technology, Wood has been supplying hydrogen production units globally for more than 60 years. We also have experience in carbon capture and storage, renewable power and pipelines for distribution. This puts us in a unique position to unlock the opportunities of a clean hydrogen energy system and support our clients looking for robust hydrogen expertise.

“I am confident that Josh’s in-depth expertise, coupled with Wood’s innovative solutions, will help our clients succeed in their journey to net-zero. I look forward to working closely together as we help turn our ambitious plans into reality for a better, more sustainable future for generations to come,” said Andy Hemingway, President of Energy, Innovation & Optimisation at Wood.

Commenting on his new role, Josh added: “I’m delighted to be joining Wood in this global role at what is a very exciting time to be working in the hydrogen sector. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience and knowledge to grow Wood’s hydrogen offering for its new and existing partners, clients and stakeholders. Together, we have the opportunity to lead the energy transition and make a real impact on the world.”
