StocExpo Europe, a key event in the storage industry’s calendar, has begun in Rotterdam today.

The conference and exhibition lasts until Thursday, and is being attended by over 200 leading suppliers from the international tank storage market. 30 speakers will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the storage industry, including geopolitical developments, cyber security, the Internet of Things and risk management.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Paulo Nery, Senior Director, EMEA Oil, Genscape.
  • Sally Martin, Vice President of HSSE for Downstream Operations, Shell.
  • Cyril Widdershoven, Senior Advisor, Geopolitics, Verocy.
  • Marcel Jutte, Managing Director, Hudson Cybertec.
  • Radu Mateescu, Project Manager Group Logistics, MOL Group.

Dutch representation includes Arend van Campen, a committee member of the Dutch Branch of the Energy Institute and Sandra De Bont, Executive Director, VOTOB (Dutch Tank Storage Association) among others. The event sponsors reflect many of those major companies that form the foundation of the industry such as Emerson, Bechtel, Matrix Applied Technologies, Emco Wheaton, Chemie Tech and SA Equip.

Giving a detailed market analysis across the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region, Paulo Nery will be identifying the threats but also the huge opportunities that exist in Europe. Further analysis will be provided by Onur Capan, Commercial Analytics Manager of VTTI along with examples of best practice from South Africa and the successful growth in the Port of Ghent. Other topics on the first day include the Internet of Things and safety culture.

Process safety leads the sessions on the second day with a geopolitical review, regulation update, cyber security advice and risk analysis. On the final day, attention is given to logistics, emergency containment and the effective planning of building of tank structures.

StocExpo Europe has also developed the ‘Engineers of the Future’ programme, which will have its own agenda on Thursday; it intends to highlight the benefits of working and forging a career within the tank storage industry.

Over the three days, participants from across Europe will gain valuable insights from high-profile industry leaders in the conference, and experience a showcase of leading-edge technology and innovations at the event’s exhibition.
