Hydrocarbon Engineering's Senior Editor, Callum O'Reilly, recently sat down with Dr Klaus Brun, Global Director of Research & Development, Ebara Elliott Energy, to discuss his article that featured in the February 2025 issue of Hydrocarbon Engineering magazine.
Titled 'High-speed hydrogen compression', the article considers the progress that we are making towards adapting centrifugal compressors for high-speed hydrogen compression.
Klaus talks us through some of the challenges of the transition to carbon-free energy by 2050, and the important role that hydrogen will have to play. We discuss the benefits of high-speed hydrogen compression, the challenges facing the development of this technology, and the evolution of specifications, codes and standards.
Klaus also offers his thoughts on realistic considerations and expectations for the industry going forward, given factors including geopolitics, market demand, cost constraints, and infrastructure.
