Mercuria Energy Group has announced the establishment of Sígnar Energy S.A.U. to manage Shell-branded downstream operations in Argentina, previously operated by Raízen.
The newly established company will oversee a network of 892 Shell-branded service stations, the refinery in Dock Sud, which has operated for 96 years, and a lubricants manufacturing plant in Buenos Aires. Its assets also include aviation fuel facilities at Ezeiza and Aeroparque airports, as well as logistics terminals in Arroyo Seco and Santa Fe.
Sígnar Energy will manage the businesses under the Shell brand through a licensing agreement, maintaining continuity for customers while pursuing future growth and development in the Argentine market.
Mercuria’s global chief investment officer, Brian Falik, said the acquisition reflected the group’s long-term commitment to strategic investment in global energy markets and strengthened its established presence in Latin America.
He added that Argentina represented an important energy market with strong long-term fundamentals and opportunities for operational growth and investment. Mercuria intends to draw on its global and regional expertise to support the business’s continued development.
Andrés Cavallari, CEOr of Sígnar Energy, said the new company would build on Shell’s 112-year history in Argentina and its established position in the fuels and lubricants markets. He highlighted the importance of maintaining continuity through the existing team while pursuing a clear strategy for sustainable growth.
