Fergana oil refinery increases production

The Fergana oil refinery has increased its production of gasoline by more than 50% in line with a government request to bolster domestic supply during the winter.

From the start of the winter period, the refinery has more than doubled its output of AI80 gasoline, prompted by an order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Government of Uzbekistan. Between January and November, the refinery produced an average of 800 tpd of gasoline. Since 14 December, this figure has increased to 1250 t.

The additional capacity was achieved by operating company Sanoat Energetika Guruhi LLC (‘Saneg’) through targeted upgrades of the plant’s production facilities. Saneg, which had acquired the Fergana oil refinery in June 2022 but has overseen operations since 2020, attracted investments to implement the modernisation over recent months.

When the private oil company took ownership earlier this year, it had pledged to double the processing rate of input raw materials until the end of the year, from 1 million to 2 million t. Saneg invested more than US$400 million to modernise the refinery.

The refinery also increased production of AI92 gasoline. At least 500 tpd of this type of gasoline are sold onto the domestic market.

Khabib Latipov, Director of the Fergana oil refinery, commented: “Today, all resources of the Fergana oil refinery are aimed at providing the population with affordable fuel - in particular, gasoline. The recent abolition of the excise tax has significantly affected the market, and demand has increased markedly. Fortunately, we had changed the production programme before that, back in November. We adjusted the refinery’s workload as the autumn/winter maximum demand period was approaching. After our modernisation efforts, the plant now uses new and more efficient technological processes. Thanks to the use of these modern technologies, we are able to find the most efficient parameters to operate our equipment during the refining process. The finished gasoline is put up for auction on the exchange, and prices are freely determined by the market.”
