Perpetual Next appoints Bilfinger as Owner’s Engineer for biomethanol project

The Delfzijl project is an important part of Perpetual Next’s ambition to develop large scale production of biomethanol from residues. By converting sustainable biogenic residues into biomethanol, the project aims to provide a lower-carbon alternative for multiple industries like the maritime sector and the chemical industry.

As Owner’s Engineer, Bilfinger will support Perpetual Next throughout the next stage of project development. The collaboration will help bring together the various project partners and disciplines, while further advancing the project towards FID.

Domestic production

The project represents a significant potential investment in the region, with total capital expenditure for the full development envisaged at up to €1 billion. The development of the facility would contribute to strengthening the Netherlands’ and Europe’s position in the growing market for sustainable fuels and the emerging biomethanol economy. With methanol set to become an increasingly important sustainable fuel and key building block for the chemical industry, domestic production will play an important role in strengthening supply security and strategic autonomy.
