Hydrocarbon Engineering,
A team from the Atlas Copco Energy Group responsible for the Tentec range of bolt tightening products has successfully completed its first major service project in Saudi Arabia. The organisation was set up in 2015 in alliance and sponsorship of local agent, Sendan International Co. Ltd, and, as well as selling the Tentec range, it started offering both rental and onsite services.
The contract, for a major refinery shutdown in Saudi Arabia, was awarded in two parts. The first contract involved the opening and tightening of manways and the inlet and outlet flanges of critical reactors, while in the second, engineers were responsible for the loosening and tightening of bolted joints of heat exchangers, pressure vessels and related piping joints.
This was a major project for the newly formed team and involved meticulous resource planning and allocation. This part of the project was organised and led by Manoj Kumar, who heads up the Energy team in Saudi Arabia. As well as arranging extra manpower from Qatar and India, he further boosted the number of technicians on site by locally recruiting and training them to ensure that the correct skills were employed to use the Tentec bolt tightening equipment. For a project this size, extra equipment was also required and this was shipped quickly and efficiently from the manufacturing base in the UK, where the Energy team demonstrated the strength of stocks and own manufacturing capabilities. With personnel and equipment all in place, the scope of contract number two was significantly changed one week before the work was due to start. Nevertheless, Manoj Kumar was able to mobilise the extra manpower and equipment required. Finally, to ensure that onsite the contract went without a hitch, a highly experienced site manager was deputed to supervise the engineers and technicians at the refinery.
Both contracts ran concurrently over a period of six weeks, with crews required on site both day and night. The project was finished on time and in budget and the refinery enjoyed a leak free startup. PCA Mohan, Regional Director – MENA & India commented that the execution of this project with such a precision and highest standard on quality and safety is commendable and a proud moment for Atlas Copco Energy Group.
