GlobalData: Asia to dominate global propylene capacity additions by 2030

Asia’s dominance in propylene industry is majorly supported by the upcoming projects in China and India. Out of the two countries, China is positioned to lead, with about 24 projects expected to come online by 2030. The highest capacity addition in the country is expected to be added from an announced project, the Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Propylene Plant 2. The project is presently in feasibility stage and is slated to start operations in 2030. Shandong Yulong Petrochemical is the designated operator of this project and also holds entire equity stake.

The Fujian Meide Petrochemical Fuzhou Propylene Plant 2 and the Jinzhou Petrochemical Company Jinzhou Propylene Plant 3 represent some other key projects in China. The projects are likely to begin operations in 2028 and 2029, respectively.

The capacity additions in India, on the other hand, is expected from about 14 projects. The highest capacity addition in the country is anticipated to be added from an announced project, the Reliance Industries Jamnagar Propylene Plant 3. Reliance O2C is the designated operator of this project that is likely to start propylene production in 2030.

Vietnam, South Korea, and Indonesia are the remaining countries in Asia that are expected to witness capacity additions during the outlook period. In Vietnam, there are two upcoming projects that are likely to come online in 2027 and 2030. While South Korea and Indonesia are expected to have one upcoming project each, by 2030.
