Fluor Corp. has announced that its joint venture partnership with JGC was selected as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for LNG Canada’s proposed LNG export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada. The award is conditional on a positive final investment decision later this year, at which point Fluor will book its share of the contract value.

“We thank LNG Canada for the opportunity to participate in developing the first world-class LNG facility in British Columbia,” said Jim Brittain, group president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals business. “Our team has developed an innovative design and execution strategy that improves the project’s competitiveness and predictability and positions it for a final investment decision. We look forward to building on the strong relationships that LNG Canada has established with the local community. Our team is committed to developing this facility safely, sustainably and with lasting benefits for the local community and British Columbia.”

The proposed LNG export facility will liquefy surplus Canadian natural gas so that it can be safely exported to help meet global energy demands. The facility will initially consist of two LNG processing units, referred to as trains, each with the capacity to produce at least 6.5 million tpa of LNG per train. The project includes the option to expand to four trains in the future.

Fluor has had a strong presence in Canada for nearly 70 years, safely delivering engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction services to some of Canada’s largest oil, gas, petrochemical, mining, power and infrastructure projects.

LNG Canada is a joint venture comprised of Shell Canada Energy (50%), an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell plc, and affiliates of PetroChina (20%), Korea Gas Corp. (15%) and Mitsubishi Corp. (15%).
