Technology for Japan’s top oil refiner

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

KBR has announced that JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation (JX Corp) has once again selected the ROSE® technology for the Kashima refinery expansion project. The plant is in Japan and this is the second ROSE unit for JX Corp.

Contract details
KBR will supply JX Corp with a basic engineering package in support of the aggressive work schedule at the refinery which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2015. The technology will be used to enhance profitability of the facility.

The ROSE technology will allow the plant to separate large amounts of deasphalted oil (DAO) from residue feed. DAO from this technology contains the lowest possible quantities of asphaltene, which helps in reducing catalyst consumption, and improves performance of downstream hydroprocessing units.

Comments on the contract
‘KBR is pleased that the technology has again been selected by JX Corp for its Kashima refinery after successful experience with ROSE at the Mizushma refinery, said John Derbyshire, President, KBR Technology. ‘I am confident that our technology design will deliver greater production capacity, enhance profitability of the refinery and enable JX Corp to achieve its strategic business objectives.’
