Global refining construction update

Canada

An expansion project at the Federated Coops Refinery Complex in Regina has been opened. The US$ 2.7 billion investment will boost daily processing capacity by a third to 130 000 bpd. The project was financed entirely by the Cooperative.

Pakistan

Pakistan Refinery Limited is going to double its monthly production to 24 000 t after the installation of a new isomeration plant. The project is costing approximately US$ 50 million to execute.

USA

Calumet Montana Refining Company has been granted an air quality permit for its expansion plans. Processing capacity at the Great Falls refinery will triple when the project has been completed allowing a processing level of 30 000 bpd.

BP are going to spend over US$ 400 million to reduce noxious air pollution from  the Whiting refinery in Indiana. This is part of a settlement with federal authorities and environmental groups.

Venezuela

Wison Engineering of China is going to convert the Puerto la Cruz refinery to blend heavier crudes. The contract is worth US$ 834 million and has been awarded by PDVSA which runs the refinery. This contract is the biggest ever awarded to a Chinese company by a Venezuelan firm.

Vietnam

JGC Corp has won a bid to build the US$ 3.2 billion refinery in Phu Yen. JGC CORP and Technostar of the UK who are building the Vung Ro facility have signed the EPC contract. The construction project is expected to take four years.
