Hydrogen reformers contract

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

A subsidiary of Foster Wheeler AG’s Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded a contract for two Terrace Wall™ hydrogen reformers. The contract has been awarded by GS Engineering & Construction Corporation on behalf of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) consortium for the US$ 9 billion Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical (NSRP) complex which is being constructed in the Nghi Son Economic Zone, Thanh Hoa, Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The contract value was not disclosed by Foster Wheeler but will be included in the company’s fourth quarter 2013 bookings.

Contract details

Foster Wheeler will design and supply the reformers, which will be designed to be capable of producing a combined total of 145 000 tpy of hydrogen. The reformers will be key components within the Nghi Son refinery hydrogen manufacturing unit. Foster Wheeler was awarded the license package for the hydrogen production unit directly by NSPR in 2010 and delivery of the reformers is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2015.

Comments on the contract

‘Umberto della Sala, Chief Operating Officer of Foster Wheeler AG said, ‘this major award by the NSRP EPC consortium demonstrates confidence in Foster Wheeler’s technology in hydrogen reforming and our ability to design to exacting specifications. Our Terrace Wall reformer, as well as being extremely efficient and reliable, is very well suited to the modular execution strategy adopted for this hydrogen unit. Large sections of the reformers will be designed to be delivered fully assembled, maximising offsite activity and delivering schedule benefits. Our Fired Heaters Group, Reading, UK and Milan, Italy, will combine their expert resources to execute this important project.’
