Libyan refineries remain closed as fighting continues

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

The two largest refineries in Libya remain closed as civil war rages across the country. The 220 000 bpd Ras Lanuf refinery, operated by a subsidiary of the National Oil Corporation of Libya, is undamaged but is not operational because employees have fled. Oil tanks at the adjacent Es Sider terminal were damaged by bombing on March 9 as the uprising against the Libyan government continues.

Meanwhile, the Zawiyah refinery, located 50 km west of the capital Tripoli, has also closed due to security fears. The refinery, which has been operating at 70% capability is the biggest provider of gasoline for cars in Libya and has a capacity of 120 000 bpd.
