Syensqo launches portfolio of elastomers and lubricants fluids with certified circular content

Syensqo, a global provider of high-performance specialty polymers, has announced the global availability of several circular content certified high performance elastomers and lubricants fluids manufactured at its Spinetta Marengo plant in Piedmont, Italy.

These certified products have allocated up to 29% of post-industrial recycled (PIR) hydrofluoric acid (HF) through a mass balance system.

These high-performance specialty materials, derived from fluorspar, are renowned for their resistance to heat and chemicals alongside long-lasting lubrication, and are used in highly specialised applications.

Fluorspar is listed as a critical mineral in both the US Energy Act and the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, which sets a target of sourcing at least 25% of annual consumption from domestic recycling by 2030. By replacing a long and globally spread supply chain from mining, refining, to HF production by a single step, recovering the fluor from waste inside the Spinetta Marengo plant, it makes the supply chain more resilient to geopolitical, trade, and ESG risks.

“Customers in elastomers and lubricant fluids are increasingly asking for circular solutions to meet their own ambitious circular sales targets. With this certification and investment to ramp-up recycled Fluor production, these solutions can help them achieve these targets. Syensqo offers a certified circular portfolio of these products which can advance the transition to a circular economy in the market’s value chains,” said Tom Wood, Senior Vice President and Head of Product & Asset Management for Syensqo’s Specialty Polymers.
