Svitzer, a provider of harbour and terminal towage to the global shipping industry, has entered a year-long agreement with Essar Oil UK to provide towage service related to the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port, Liverpool, UK.
The agreement is an extension of former contracts established as far back as 2002. Essar owns and operates the Stanlow refinery located on the south side of the Mersey Estuary near Liverpool. On an average, Svitzer tows three vessels related to Essar’s activities on a weekly basis.
Essar is one of the largest suppliers of fuel in north west England with customers including most of the major retailers together with Manchester Airport and the region’s trains and buses.
Apart from escorting tankers along the narrow and relatively shallow channel of the River Mersey, Svitzer also provides standby and firefighting cover.
