FERC releases schedule for environmental review of Alaska LNG project

FERC plans to issue a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) in March 2019 and a final EIS on 9 December 2019. Other federal agencies that hold jurisdiction over the project will have just under three months afterwards, until 8 March 2020, to complete their review.

If completed, the Alaska LNG project would have annual capacity of 3.9 billion ft³/d of natural gas. An 800-mile pipeline would transport natural gas from the North Slope natural gas reservoir on the state’s north coast to a liquefaction plant on the Kenai Peninsula on the south coast.

The Governor of Alaska, Bill Walker, said: “This is a major step forward that establishes clarity and predictability in the federal permitting process, which is critical for investors.”

ADGC President, Keith Meyer, said earlier this month that the project is looking to finalise LNG purchase agreements and financing with the Bank of China, Sinopec, Tokyo Gas, Korea Gas Corp. and Petro-Vietnam by the end of the year. China’s sovereign wealth fund, China Investment Corp., is also believed to be weighing up an equity investment.
