Evos Hamburg GmbH has launched DigiTank, a pioneering research initiative supported by the IHATEC II programme, to revolutionise tank storage logistics.

By addressing challenges such as environmental risks, operational inefficiencies, and workforce shortages, DigiTank integrates advanced technologies like digital twins, artificial intelligence, and robotics to create safer, more efficient, and sustainable operations.

The programme, which will unfold over three years of intensive collaboration, seeks to reduce control room stress, boost safety measures and optimise operations, turning a terminal into a modern, state-of-the-art facility. Its success will not only drive technological advancements but also improve the mitigation of environmental risks, ease worker burdens and support sustainable practices.

“Working in operations at our terminal has always been physically demanding,” said Michael Lübke, Managing Director of Evos Hamburg. “Without further automation and digitalisation, the long-term viability and security of operations becomes more challenging. But this challenge presents an opportunity — to create one of the most modern and efficient terminals in the industry.”

With partners including Schotte Automotive, the University of Duisburg-Essen, Hafen Hamburg Marketing ma-co maritimies competenzcentrum GmbH and Unabhängiger Tanklagerverband e.V., DigiTank combines expertise in digitalisation, sustainability, and training. Evos Hamburg acknowledges the critical support of the IHATEC II programme in making this transformation possible, setting a new standard for the industry.
