The International Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA) recently held its 11th Annual ILTA Safety Awards Presentation and Breakfast to honour 15 terminal member companies that achieved outstanding safety performance in 2016.

Award recipients were identified from among the companies that participated in ILTA’s Survey of Terminal Member Safety Data for 2016.

ILTA’s Safety Excellence Award was presented to 12 terminal companies that achieved a total recordable incident rate (TRIR) of 0.75 or less in 2016, with the incident rate for smaller companies with fewer than 100 FTEs averaged over multiple years, depending on the total number of employees.

The winners were: Arc Terminals LP; CITGO Petroleum Corp.; Demaco Terminal Operations Corp.; Intercontinental Terminals Company LLC; Marathon Petroleum Co. LP; MIPC LLC; Motiva Enterprises LLC; Petro-Diamond Terminal Co.; Phillips 66 Co.; Tesoro Logistics LP; U.S. Oil Division of U.S. Venture Inc.; and Vopak Terminals North America Inc.

Demaco and Phillips 66 were also presented with ILTA’s Five-Year Safety Milestone Award for having continuously achieved and maintained an annual TRIR of 1.0 or less since 2012.

TransMontaigne Partners received the ILTA Safety Improvement Award, which is presented to a company that has demonstrated significant, consistent improvement in safety performance over a three-year period, showing a current total recordable incident rate that is 40% lower than the average of the three prior years.

Two companies received the liquid terminal industry’s highest safety honour: the ILTA’s Platinum Safety Award. Energy Transfer Partners was recognised in the large company category (awarded to a company with over 200 full-time equivalent employees), while Benchmark River and Rail Terminals received the Platinum Safety Award in the small company category (under 200 full-time equivalent employees).
