The July 2016 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent and historical energy statistics, was released on 26 July 2016. Preliminary estimates of commercial sector energy consumption indicate that for April 2016:
- US commercial sector total energy consumption equaled 1.3 quadrillion Btu, which was virtually unchanged from April 2015. The commercial sector accounted for 18% of total US energy consumption.
- Electricity retail sales and electrical system energy losses accounted for 77% of commercial sector total energy consumption.
- Natural gas accounted for 18% of commercial sector total energy consumption, petroleum accounted for 4%, and renewable energy accounted for 1%.
The MER provides monthly and annual data on total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions.
