Combining leading coking technology with coke handling system
The partnership brings together Chevron Lummus Global’s delayed coking technology and ART-Envi’s Environmental Coke Handling Operation (ECHO) system. Together, the technologies offer refiners a cleaner alternative to conventional open coke pits and pad-based handling methods, which also addresses growing environmental expectations and community concerns.
"With ECHO, we have transformed petcoke handling into a closed, zero-emission process – setting a new environmental standard for delayed coking units," said Ralf Gast, Managing Director of ART-Envi Services. "From coke cutting to final dewatering, the system ensures safe operation, no evaporative water loss, and a markedly smaller footprint."
The integrated solution is fully enclosed and designed to keep coke contained from the moment it leaves the delayed coker drum through dewatering and transfer. By eliminating open pits, exposed conveyors, and coke stockpiles, the system significantly reduces fugitive coke dust emissions, odours, spillage, and operator exposure. Its modular design allows it to be adapted to a wide range of plot configurations and coke morphologies, even in space-constrained facilities.
Technology leadership, innovation, and collaboration
The partnership formalises years of technical collaboration between Lummus and ART-Envi and reflects a shared commitment to helping refiners meet environmental goals while maintaining reliable and efficient operations.
Chevron Lummus Global, a joint venture between Chevron USA Inc. and Lummus Technology, is a leading licensor of delayed coking technology worldwide. ART-Envi’s patented ECHO system has been applied in refinery projects globally and is designed to convert traditional coke handling into a closed, environmentally controlled operation.
