Lloyd’s Register Energy’s integrated risk-based inspection tool, Reliability Based Mechanical Integrity (RBMI), has been chosen by subsidiaries of HollyFrontier Corp. to reduce risk of inspection failures across five of its complex refineries.

The new award follows a 10 year relationship with LR, which began with the implementation of RBMI at the El Dorado Refinery, US.

RBMI is preceded by its reputation as an industry leading risk-based inspection (RBI) software package that enhances safety, maximises productivity and reduces costly equipment failures. The solution has provided numerous operators across the upstream, downstream and power industries with the ability to optimise maintenance and inspection regimes. The software has already demonstrated significant value for HollyFrontier as the company’s subsidiaries have proactively detected and mitigated equipment integrity threats by utilising the software.

“At HollyFrontier, safety is our top priority, as is our commitment to continually enhancing the reliability of our equipment and operations across all of our sites”, said Jim Stump, Senior Vice President, Refining. “The implementation of RBMI at the Navajo Refinery marks our fifth refinery to begin implementing the RBMI solution. The final implementation project will be the west half of our Tulsa Refinery. RBMI has proven to be instrumental in helping to reduce the risk of unexpected equipment failures.”

Andy Scott, Vice President Asset Integrity Americas, Lloyd’s Register Energy, added: “Lloyd’s Register Energy’s RBMI software gives companies, like HollyFrontier, a modernised and more cost effective inspection and maintenance program and is instrumental in helping to reduce the risk of equipment failures that can result in events such as an uncontrolled hazardous chemical release.”
