Pertamina NRE and ACWA Power to support Tuban refinery

Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) and ACWA Power have signed a joint development agreement (JDA) for core utilities supply to the Tuban grassroot refinery and petrochemical project.

The signing ceremony took place in B20 Summit. The agreement was signed by Dannif Danusaputro as the CEO of PNRE, and Paddy Padmanathan as the President and CEO of ACWA Power, and witnessed by Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Indonesian Chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arsjad Rasjid, Chair of B20 Indonesia Shinta Kamdani, and CEO & President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati.

The scope of JDA comprises development of power generation with capacity of 575 MW, steam generation with a capacity of 3288 tph, and water desalination plant with capacity of 12 000 tph. These are to supply to Tuban grassroot refinery and petrochemical (GRR&P), the project of PT Pertamina Rosneft Pengolahan & Petrokimia (PRPP). Located in Tuban Tuban, GRR&P project is one of Indonesia’s national strategic project in the context of building national energy security and advancing the domestic petrochemical industry.

“This is a strategic collaboration where Pertamina NRE will take part in supporting Tuban GRR&P project that will play a key role in building national energy security. It is very exciting that we are going to support Tuban GRR&P project with providing low-carbon solutions,” said Dannif Danusaputro, CEO of Pertamina NRE. “And having a reputable strategic partner is very crucial in terms of technology transfer. We believe with ACWA Power this collaboration will create a significant value” he added.

“With climate change implementation strategies at the top of the global consciousness, an integrated approach that can enable decarbonisation in a responsible and reliable way is key to mitigating the impact of carbon-intensive industries” said Paddy Padmanathan, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, ACWA Power. “As a company that this driving the transition, we look forward to collaborating with Pertamina NRE, utilising our extensive renewables and water desalination development expertise to deliver successful outcomes” he added.

The power generation that is provided from this project is part of low-carbon solutions. Developing low-carbon solutions is one of Pertamina NRE’s business focuses, along with renewable energy development, and building future businesses. As a subsidiary of Pertamina, Pertamina NRE is at the forefront of building green businesses and developing decarbonisation initiatives. It also remains committed to supporting national net zero emissions by 2060.

On the other hand, ACWA Power has a mission to reliably deliver electricity and desalinated water at a low cost, thereby contributing effectively to the sustainable, social and economic development of communities and countries.
