Alon USA Energy, Inc. and Alon USA Partners, LP announced that Alon Partners has entered into an agreement to acquire Alon Energy’s Krotz Springs refinery for total consideration of US$ 437.5 million, which will be payable to Alon Energy in a combination of US$ 100 million in cash and US$ 337.5 million in common units representing limited partner interests in Alon Partners. As part of the transaction, Alon Energy has agreed to reimburse the anticipated capital expenditures relating to the scheduled major maintenance turnaround of the Krotz Springs refinery in 2015. The transaction is expected to close on or about November 28 this year.

Alon Energy and Alon Partners believe that the Krotz Springs refinery acquisiation will provide Alon Partners diversification through crude slates, end products, customers and geographic locations, reduce Alon Partners’ dependence on a single asset and simplify Alon Energy’s corporate and capital structure.

Amec Foster Wheeler

Amec Foster Wheeler plc has announced the creation of a new force in global engineering, project delivery, asset support, power equipment and consultancy following the completion of the £ 5 billion combination of AMEC plc and Foster Wheeler AG. The new company, Amec Foster Wheeler, has a highly skilled workforce of over 40 000 in more than 50 countries, 2013 annualised scope revenues of £ 5.5 billion and a $ 6.3 billion order book. The combined company would have generated trading profits of £ 521 million in 2013.

Amec Foster Wheeler designs, delivers and maintains strategic and complex infrastructure assets across a range of markets. It has a strong presence across the onshore and offshore oil and gas value chain, from production, through processing, as monetisation, midstream, oil refining and chemicals. Amec Foster Wheeler is also a major player in the mining, clean energy, power generation, environment and infrastructure markets, using its increased scale to widen and deepen customer relationships. In addition, Amec Foster Wheeler is a leading designer, fabricator and supplier of advanced boiler systems for the power generation and industrial markets.


AVEVA has announced that it will renew its sponsorship of the Inspiring Excellence Programme for engineering students at Villiers Park Educational trust. Based in Foxton, Cambridgeshire, UK, Villiers Park helps students with high academic ability to raise their aspirations, improve their attainment and gain places at leading universities. The national charity achieves this through their Inspiring Excellence Programme five day residential courses and their Scholars Programme. Villiers Park runs a comprehensive programme of support to help enable students from less advantaged backgrounds reach their full academic potential and gain access to leading universities or other centres of excellence, and to thrive once there. They also offer an advisory service for schools, enabling them to reflect on their current practice and develop strategies so that all students, including the most able, are stretched and challenged.

CH2M Hill

CH2M Hill has announced that it intends to explore strategic alternatives for the portion of oil, gas and chemicals business that is located in and serves the Alaska and Sakhalin Island, Russia markets. With approximately 2400 employees, this CH2M Hill business unit is a leading provider of safe, high quality integrated oilfield support services, including oilfield operations and maintenance services, construction and other related services. With a significant portfolio of specialised vehicles and equipment, the business unit provides mission critical support services to its major energy clients, with particular expertise operating in harsh and demanding climates.

Quantum Fuel Systems

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. has announced that AGA Systems, has selected Quantum’s Q-Lite CNG storage tanks for use in its new biofuel CNG products targeted for trucks equipped with General Motors’ 5.3 ltr and 6.2 ltr direct injection engine. Quantum’s proprietary, light weight, Q-Lite CNG storage tanks provide light, medium and heavy duty trucks the best range, capacity and performance compared to competing tanks.

Brian Olson, President and CEO of Quantum said, ‘we are excited to have AGA Systems as a customer and to support their GM aftermarket programs. These light duty conversions are economical and extremely beneficial to fleet owners and consumers who are making a smart transition to natural gas powered vehicles.’

Waste Management

Waste Management has celebrated the opening of a unique Renewable Natural Gas Facility creating pipeline ready natural gas from the landfill gas produced at its Milam Landfill in Fiarmont City, Illinois. In early December, the processed renewable natural gas will be injected into the Ameren Illinois pipeline for withdrawal at other locations, including some Waste Management facilities. The natural gas is used to heat homes or fuel truck fleets and other equipment that run on compressed natural gas.

The Milam Renewable Natural Gas Facility is designed to process approximately 3500 ft3/min of incoming landfill gas. This is as much gas as it takes to fuel approximately 200 waste management CNG collection trucks each day, and represents more than 5% of the natural gas that is used in Waste Management’s entire CNG fleet per day. Waste Management of Illinois currently has over 100 CNG trucks in its fleet displacing approximately 1 million gal./y of diesel fuel.
