Turner & Townsend, the global construction and programme management consultancy, has appointed Simon Trafford to the role of Director and Country Manager for Oman.

Simon joins Turner & Townsend with over 27 years’ experience working in the construction and property industry. He has in-depth regional knowledge, having spent the past six years working in the Middle East. Most recently, Simon served as Oman Country Director at Currie & Brown.

Since opening its Oman office in 2012, Turner & Townsend’s local team has experienced steady growth and provided consultancy services to high profile regional companies including Oman’s Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), as well as global player GE.

Simon takes over from David Frizell, who is assuming a new role in the UK.

Mike Collings, Managing Director, Middle East for Turner & Townsend, commented: “The key to our success in Oman has been leveraging our international strength and bridging the gap between global best practice and bespoke local solutions.

“Simon’s impressive work experience on some of the major regional schemes in the Middle East – coupled with Turner & Townsend’s global footprint – is a compelling formula for success.

“Oman is a unique environment in which to work – with a character and needs that are distinct from those of other GCC countries. Simon’s extensive knowledge of the local market will play a vital role in our continued growth, and ensure that we support world class development that also reflects Omani culture.”

Simon Trafford, Director and Country Manager for Turner & Townsend, added: “I am truly delighted to be joining a company with over 4000 employees and an impeccable reputation.

“Oman is one of the most fascinating countries in the GCC region, and the key challenge is to balance the rising demand for affordable infrastructure, hospitality and residential projects while preserving Oman’s authenticity.

“I am confident that I can support our local team in the delivery of cost effective tailored solutions for our clients.”
