PetroHab launches ATEX certified automatic shut down system

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

PetroHab has launched of its ATEX certified Safe-Stop™ automatic shut down system. The Safe-Stop Modular Shut Down System (MSDS) works in conjunction with the pressurised Petro-Habitat HWSE to provide unrivalled safety whenever hot work is conducted in the vicinity of potential flammables, such as in ATEX Zone 1 rated hazardous areas on oil rigs and at refineries.

By continuously monitoring the pressure inside the Petro-Habitat HWSE, the Safe-Stop MSDS enhances the Petro-Habitat’s safety by only allowing hot work to be conducted inside the HWSE if the air pressure within it exceeds the air pressure outside of it, to create a “positive pressure environment”.

Hermann Twickler, Managing Director of PetroHab Ltd in Dundee, said: “PetroHab’s Safe-Stop is a compact & lightweight, integrated, ATEX certified, automatic shut down system that surpasses other outdated systems on the market, which are almost universally heavy, bulky, and require an extensive amount of hardware, ducting, and cabling.

Mr Twickler continued: “The Safe-Stop MSDS system was designed with the end user’s gas detection and safety needs and requirements in mind. Among the many functions that the Safe-Stop system performs are the monitoring of pressure within the Petro-Habitat and the detection of various gases both inside and outside the HWSE. Optionally, external gas detectors are offered, which may be placed around the Petro-Habitat to enhance the safety within the general area surrounding the hot work.”

Samer Al-Azem, President of PetroHab, LLC in Houston, added: “PetroHab has always had the best habitats on the market. Our patented Quadra-Lock® panel attachment system is unparalleled, allowing virtually limitless modularity and configurability, which practically renders obsolete the failure prone zippered “A” and “B” type panels currently used throughout the HWSE industry. Manufactured from a premium ANSI/FM4950 certified, US-made silicone-coated fiberglass cloth, our panels can withstand continuous temperatures of up to 1000°F (540°C). Moreover, our panels are stitched with virtually fireproof Kevlar® thread to ensure their strength and high temperature resistance. These features make the Petro-Habitat the industry standard for safety and durability, and further provide for easier assembly and disassembly of the Petro-Habitats, and a faster, simpler, and more reliable means of exit in the event of an emergency.”
