Hydrocarbon Engineering,
Scientific Drilling International (SDI) has announced the completion of its 500th MagTraC MWD Ranging project earlier this month.
SDI introduced MagTraC MWD Ranging ™ to the industry back in 1998 to target challenging applications where uncertainty and risk play a major factor in well construction. For those unfamiliar with this unique solution - MagTraC utilises the raw MWD data to calculate the relative position between wellbores.
The 500th project required SDI to drill two boreholes with only three meters of spacing for their client in Saskatchewan, Canada with the intent of running electrical cables from surface to existing underground mine shafts. Utilising SDI’s high accuracy MWD, and Keeper Wireline gyro, as well as strategically ranging on the second well at five different intervals ensured that the strict anti-collision requirements were met and the successful completion of the job.
“The completion of our 500th project is a significant milestone for the enterprise and our Canadian team and client was proud to be part of the momentous occasion for the organisation”, stated Chris Chia, SDI’s Director of Technical Services.
