PureCycle Technologies, Inc., a US-based company revolutionising plastic recycling, has announced that its PureFive™ resin achieved critical qualification steps for use in spout and dose caps for select bottles of Procter and Gamble (P&G) products.

This is one of the first applications to use PureCycle’s recycled polypropylene (PP) resin. Scaled production tests of the dose caps are expected to begin in the coming months. Products with PureFive resin are planned to be in production by the end of 2025 and in stores in early 2026.

The multi-step qualification process for using PureCycle’s PureFive Choice™ resin first requires the recycled material to be moulded at a select converter. Next, the resin is analysed for its ability to match the colour of each qualifying package. Finally, the component is drop-tested to prove it meets requirements of strength and durability.

PureCycle CEO Dustin Olson, said: “P&G has supported PureCycle since the beginning and we’re now at a point where we are ready to supply them with recycled polypropylene for some of their most recognisable brands.” Olson continued: “PureCycle’s dissolution technology is a game-changer for the industry and these spouts and caps are just the beginning. These applications prove that we can take post-consumer waste and turn it into a high-quality, colourable, mouldable product that can help companies like P&G reach their sustainability goals.”

PureCycle licenses its patented, dissolution process for recycling polypropylene from P&G, whose scientists developed the underlying technology.

Senior VP of Corporate Research and Development at P&G LeeEllen Drechsler, added: “Our vision of transforming the polypropylene recycling process with a method that reduces our dependence on virgin plastics is coming to life through PureCycle. We are working toward integrating their PureFive resin with many of our brands’ packaging applications in the coming year.”
