Hydrocarbon Engineering,
Axens has qualified Avantium to perform independent testing of commercial naphtha reforming catalysts after a thorough qualification programme under commercially relevant conditions.
Avantium’s Flowrence® 16-parallel reactors system with individual temperature control and enhanced online analytics enables reforming catalyst testing at a constant research octane number (RON) of each reactor. The methods applied and the resulting high data quality (precision, accuracy and reproducibility) have been independently verified and accepted by Axens.
Axens is continuously upgrading its catalyst portfolio. For this qualification programme, the company provided Avantium with commercial reforming catalysts. The Flowrence® system’s discrimination capabilities allowed Axens to confirm the gains in catalyst generation obtained by providing precise and repeatable C5+ yields, total aromatics and hydrogen-produced data, as well as complete PIONA breakdown with time on stream. The temperature required, yields, and stability of the catalysts at constant RON output and overall catalysts ranking have been independently verified and accepted by Axens.
“We are very pleased to be qualified by Axens. This qualification programme is part of ongoing efforts to formally obtain endorsement from all major catalyst vendors of our testing approach, strategies and experimental setup. We are committed to providing our customers meaningful results to enable fact-based decisions and ultimately increase their competitiveness and profitability,” said Tiago Vilela, Director Business Development, Avantium Refinery Catalyst Testing.
