US gasoline and diesel price movements: Week ending 9 February 2015

Gasoline

The US average price for regular gasoline increased 12 cents from the previous week to US$2.19/gal. as of 9 February 2015, US$1.12/gal. less than the same time last year.

Prices in all regions increased this week with the West Coast up 15 cents to US$2.47/gal., followed by the Midwest price, which increased 14 cents to US$2.17/gal. The Gulf Coast price rose 12 cents to US$1.98/gal., and the East Coast price was up ten cents to US$2.19/gal. The Rocky Mountain price rose eight cents to US$1.95/gal.

Diesel

The US average price for diesel fuel increased less than half a cent from a week ago to US$2.84/gal., US$1.14/gal. less than the same time last year.

Regional price movements were mixed. The Gulf Coast and Rocky Mountain prices fell one cent, to US$2.76/gal. and US$2.78/gal., respectively. The East Coast price was down less than half a cent to US$2.93/gal. The West Coast price increased by four cents to US$2.92/gal., and the Midwest price rose less than half a cent to US$2.77/gal.

Propane

US propane stocks decreased by 2.3 million bbls last week to 65.0 million bbls as of 6 February 2015, 37.1 million bbls (132.8%) higher than a year ago. Gulf Coast and East Coast inventories both decreased by 0.7 million bbls. Midwest inventories decreased by 0.6 million bbls and Rocky Mountain/West Coast inventories decreased by 0.2 million bbls.

Propylene non-fuel use inventories represented 6.3% of total propane inventories.

Residential heating oil

As of 9 February 2015, residential heating oil prices averaged US$2.91/gal., 11 cents/gal. higher than last week, and US$1.33/gal. less than last year’s price for the same week. Wholesale heating oil prices averaged less than US$1.98/gal., almost 15 cents/gal. higher than last week and nearly US$1.47/gal. lower when compared to the same time last year.

Residential propane prices averaged US$2.36/gal., approximately 1 cent/gal. lower than last week, and US$1.40/gal. less than the price at the same time last year. The average wholesale propane price increased by almost 6 cents/gal. this week to just under 67 cents/gal., US$1.94/gal. lower than the 10 February 2014 price.
