ASTM International gains additional accreditation

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

ASTM International has announced the addition of accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for nine of its proficiency testing programmes.

The new accreditations cover programs including cetane, crude oil, engine coolants, in-service diesel oil, insulated fluid quality, polypropylene, the thermal analysis of plastics, and more. The recent additions bring the total number of ASTM International programmes that have achieved A2LA accreditation to 28, including automotive lubricant additives, biodiesel, and many more.

Nearly 60% of ASTM’s proficiency testing programmes have now been accredited.

Programmes accredited through A2LA are assessed against criteria from a key standard: Conformity Assessment – General Requirements for Proficiency Testing (ISO/IEC 17043:2010). More than 5000 laboratories use ASTM’s statistical quality assurance tools in the proficiency testing programmes.
