Porvair expands business into Chinese market

Porvair Filtration Group (Porvair), an international filtration specialist, has launched a new operational base in China as it looks to target further global growth. Porvair will be marketing and selling its complete range of products from the new base in Xiaogan, close to Wuhan, in the North-Central Hubei province.

The move represents a significant international step for the company, which has previously had operational bases only in the US, UK, and Benelux regions, further strengthening its multi-national position.

Porvair has been growing its business in Asia for many years and has built up a network of sales channels into industries such as water treatment, medical devices, chemical processing and energy. Porvair has worked on some of Asia’s largest gasification projects, providing advanced char filtration systems to customers such as POSCO in South Korea and Reliance Industries Ltd in India. However, the Xiaogan base will allow it to directly service local needs in the region, enhancing the agility of the business.

The company - honoured in the UK last year with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade – says it will introduce capabilities in response to market demand as its Asian presence grows, initially manufacturing filters for coal gasification. Porvair expects to expand its interests long term in water treatment, printing, polymer, and industrial processes, with local employment opportunities growing in tandem.

The Xiaogan facility, which has significant capacity for future expansion, will be overseen by General Manager Jason Goo. Managing Director, Tom Liddell said, “We see this as a significant milestone for us as we continue to target new international markets.”“This new facility will act as a focal point for all our interests in Asia and a platform for future growth of this important geographic segment.”

“It will mean that our divisions based in the UK and US have direct sales channels and dedicated local support. This improved customer service will help convert new business and lead to sustainable growth of existing Asian accounts." “Porvair continues to strive for heightened efficiency and customer service to deliver our world class technology. Our new base in China is central to that goal.”
