The vast majority of sulfur in all forms (SAF) production is now involuntary. Approximately 98% of brimstone (elemental sulfur) is produced at hydrocarbon processing plants, and very large volumes of sulfuric acid are produced at base metals smelters in order to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions.
