Kenworth Truck Company will offer a natural gas option for its Kenworth T680 trucks.

Launched in 2012, the T680 truck has become Kenworth’s popular truck of choice for fleets and truck operators looking to maximise fuel efficiency and driver comfort features.

"Kenworth continues to build upon the T680's remarkable success with the addition of this new natural gas option. Our customers find it very appealing to be able to choose cost-efficient natural gas combined with the fuel-saving aerodynamics of the Kenworth T680. This important expansion of our T680 product line will provide customers in various applications with new benefits and cost-savings opportunities," commented Andy Douglas, Kenworth national sales manager for specialty markets.

The Kenworth T680 will be available with the factory-installed Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine rated up to 400 horsepower and 1450 lb-ft of torque.

The Cummins Westport ISX12 G engine requires a single fuel source and can run on either CNG (compressed natural gas) or LNG (liquefied natural gas), both of which are cost-effective, low-carbon and low-emission fuels. The natural gas engine uses a maintenance-free, three-way catalyst and does not require a diesel exhaust fluid tank, diesel particulate filter or selective catalytic reduction technology.

Kenworth is also working with Agility Fuel Systems, McNeilus and Trilogy Engineered Solutions to provide natural gas tanks and fuelling systems.
