India
Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has announced that not only is it planning to expand the Kochi refinery but also set up a petrochemicals unit. The expansion will increase processing capacity at the plant to 15.5 million tpy and the plant will also be able to produce fuels complying with Euro IV and V specifications.
A planned maintenance shutdown has been announced by Reliance Industries Ltd for three paraxylene units at the Jamnagar refinery, Gujarat. The units will be offline for approximately six weeks.
Iran
It was reported on 30th March that a fire broke out at the Abadan refinery in the south of Iran. The fire started due to a fluctuation in the main power supply to one of the refinery’s units. No one was injured and the fire was successfully extinguished.
Saudi Arabia
Total has announced that the joint venture Jubail refinery will reach full production capacity by the middle of this year. The 400 000 bpd facility is a joint venture between Total and Saudi Aramco.
UAE
KBR has been awarded a FEED contract by Emirates National Oil Co. The contract relates to the upgrade of the 120 000 bpd Jebel Ali refinery in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai. The upgrade includes the addition of processing units to produce jet and diesel.
