USA

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has settled a lawsuit on measuring toxic emissions from refineries and chemical plants.

The move comes after complaints from community groups in Texas and Louisiana in regards to air quality.

The EPA has until December to revise the reporting standards under the Clean Air Act.

California

Officials have announced that noone was injured during a small fire at the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge refinery on Thursday.

It took firecrews less than an hour to fully extinguish the flames and current air monitoring shows no hydrocarbons above detectable limits.

ExxonMobil expects to be able to meet all contractual commitments.

Illinois

The CITGO Lemont refinery has sponsored the fifth annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Muscle Team event. Refinery employees joined the MDA and professional athletes at the event, which raised more than US$ 200 000.

The proceeds will benefit thousands of families in the Chicagoland area living with neuromuscular disease by providing MDA support services, research and educational programs.

‘MDA is grateful to have such a dedicated partnership with the CITGO Lemont Refinery and its generous employees’, said April Elashik, Executive Director of the MDA Chicagoland offices.

Saudi Arabia

Metso has received an order to be delivered to Saudi Aramco’s petroleum refining and petrochemical production complex, currently under construction. The order includes a considerable number and wide range of Metso’s NEles rotary and globe valves and Jamesbury valves. It also includes Metso’s intelligent safety solenoid technology and valve controllers.

Malaysia

Petron Corp plans to spend over US$ 1 billion in the next several years in order to upgrade its refinery plant in Port Dickinson.

Petron Chairman and Chief Executive, Officer Ramon S. Ang said that the company aims to build at least 30 more stations this year, after completing the construction of 10 in 2013.
