Reestablishment of illegal refineries foiled in Nigeria

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

A Nigerian Joint Task Force (JTF) operation known as Pulo Shield has managed to dismantle an illegal crude refinery in Samkiri, part of the Bonny Local Government area of Rivers State. The troops of 146 Battalion Sector 2 were deployed on this operation.

The Bonny refinery raid

When searching for the illegal facility, 11 oil drums were found floating in Samkiri Creek. The drums were thought to be filled with oil illegally obtained from the Shell Petroleum Development Company facility in the local area that suffered from a leak recently.

Further illegal refineries

In Bayelsa State, the 343 Regiment and 5 Battalion of Sector 2, also part of the JTF, destroyed 42 illegal distillery camps. 6 other illegal sites were found in the Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. This was also part of the same operation Pulo Shield.

The above raids were carried out from 10th – 23rd August and resulted in five oil theft suspects being arrested.
