Another safety award for Foster Wheeler
The UK subsidiary of Foster Wheeler’s Global Engineering and Construction Group, Foster Wheeler Energy Limited, has been awarded the Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit Award from the British Safety Council. The award follows a five star audit, under which the British Safety Council looked at the overall health and safety management system of FWEL’s operation in Middlesbrough, Teesside, north east England.
Safety audit details
The audit is a comprehensive, independent and quantified evaluation of an organisation’s entire health and safety management system, and is used by organisations worldwide to benchmark their systems against health and safety best practice.
The audit measures performance against key safety management indicators, identifies areas of practice both positive and negative and provides a structured approach to continuous improvement. The results are a numerical score of a company’s performance. In 2013, the audit additionally increased its focus on safety culture, leadership and employee wellbeing. Organisations are rated from one to five stars.
Comments on the award
‘To achieve this magnificent overall score is testimony to the commitment to world class health and safety performance demonstrated by our Teesside team, underpinned by a five star health and safety management system,’ said Umberto della Sala, President and COO of Foster Wheeler AG. ‘It is clear to me that there is real and continued commitment, not only in Teesside but also across our organisation worldwide, to our Realising Zero health and safety initiative, and to driving continuous improvement of our already world class health and safety performance.’
