House passes pro-LNG export legislation
The House of Representative passed the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act (H.R. 6) authored by Representative Gardner on a 266 to 150 vote on 25 June 2014.
H.R. 6 would require the Department of Energy (DOE) to approve or deny export applications within 30 days. Previously, this bill would have given 90 days for consideration of each individual application. However, because Senator Udall updated his bill and cut the period of consideration to 45 days, Rep. Gardner further cut the time period for consideration of his own bill.
The American Public Gas Association (APGA) highlights that, in addition to compressing the timeframe for DOE consideration, this legislation also expedites any lawsuits that would result from DOE decisions.
APGA strongly opposes the Act.
