Small scale LNG plant produces first fuel

Chart Industries, Inc. is pleased to have supported the successful commissioning and start up of Stabilis Energy and Flint Hills Resources’ first joint venture LNG production facility in George West, Texas.

The 100 000 gal./d operation, strategically located at the heart of the Eagle Ford Shale, features a Chart designed and built C100N Standard Liquefaction Plant together with 270 000 gal. of Chart supplied LNG storage capacity and a load out facility.

The plant produces LNG for high horsepower fuel applications including drilling, pressure pumping, transportation and other oilfield and industrial fuel applications throughout the Eagle Ford Shale. The Stabilis Energy and Flint Hills Resources joint venture provides turnkey LNG fuel solutions including LNG production as well as transportation and logistics, field service, cryogenic equipment rental, and engine conversion and optimisation service.

Shell opens first European LNG fuelling station

Earlier this month, members of the Chart-Ferox team were invited to Rotterdam for the opening of Shell’s first European LNG fuelling station. Located near to the A15, a major arterial route for trucks travelling into Belgium, France and Germany’s Ruhrgebiet, the station has the capacity to fuel 170 heavy duty vehicles every day and, with Chart’s technology, meets the industry’s highest technical and safety standards.

Chart-Ferox’s scope of supply for the Rotterdam station includes engineering, fabrication, installation and commissioning of the LNG storage tank, offloading, pump skids, control and safety system, interconnecting pipe work and the LNG dispensers.

With more stations under construction and additional sites in the pipeline, it’s clear that, despite the recent fall in global oil prices, LNG continues to offer an attractive, cost competitive alternative to diesel, while proving to be a more environmentally friendly option as well.
