The CEO of Total SA, Patrick Pouyanne, has confirmed that the company is in talks to buy Engie’s LNG assets.
In a Bloomberg TV interview, Mr Pouyanne said: “Total is a big player in LNG […] I can confirm we’ve discussed with Engie, like other companies, and we’ll see if we can find an agreement. If not, we have other ideas, other opportunities, to develop the LNG business.”
The revelation follows Engie’s recent confirmation that it has launched a strategic review of its upstream and midstream LNG activities. The company’s downstream LNG activities, such as regasification and LNG ex-terminal sales, will not form part of the review.
