Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s oil refining plant reconstruction project in Venezuela, which was won from Petroleos de Venezuela two years ago, has been halted due to the non-payment of construction costs.

Costa Rica

Recope has launched a tender to buy three 165 000 cargoes of fuel oil to be received from mid-April to October at Port Moin.

The state run company has increased imports of fuel since 2013, while planning the upgrade of its 25 000 bpd refinery in Moin.

Middle East

Alfa Laval has won an order to supply its Packinox heat exchangers to an integrated refinery petrochemical compex in the Middle East.

The order is worth SEK 65 million (US$ 10 million), and delivery is scheduled for 2014 and 2015.

The exchangers will be included in a process to remove non-desirable substances, such as sulfur, from the feedstock.



A fire at the Motiva Enterprises refinery in St. James Parish has been extinguished, having blazed for 45 minutes of Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out in an unidentified processing unit at approximately 3.40pm.

The incident resulted in no injuries and no offsite impact as detected by fence line monitors.
