API insists: EPA was not denied role in E15 testing

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

The American Petroleum Institute (API) Downstream Group Director, Bob Greco, has refuted what have been described as ‘inaccurate and misleading statements’ made by the EPA administrator nominee, Gina McCarthy, that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE) were ‘denied’ a role in the testing on E15.

In a letter to Senator David Vitter, Greco highlighted that the records show that both before and during the Coordinating Research Council (CRC) mid level ethanol blends research program, the EPA and DOE played significant roles either directly or through the US national laboratories.

The key objective in undertaking the CRC mid level ethanol blends research program was to ensure that the safety and performance of vehicles is not compromised or otherwise adversely affected by E15. According to Greco, the CRC met these goals; however, the EPA and DOE did not.
