France

Total announced on the 9th September that the strike at the Grandpuits refinery has come to an end and operations are now beginning to reach optimum levels. However, the strike at the Donges plant was still ongoing.

Germany

OAO Rosneft is still in talks with Petroleos de Venezuela SA as it hopes to buy PDVSA’s stake in the Ruhr Oel GmbH refinery, Germany. The Russian company wants to break in to the European market and see this investment as a good starting point.

Greece

Hellenic Petroleum SA has announced plans to shut down the Okta refinery, Macedonia for maintenance. It is expected that the 65,000 bpd facility will be offline for up to four weeks.

Italy

ExxonMobil Corp. has had to shut down part of the Sarpom refinery, Italy due to yet another fire. The larger of the facility’s crude units has been shut down after the second fire in two weeks. The unit caught fire as it was being restarted after renovation work was completed from the previous fire.
