Oil, gas and petrochemical company announcements: 14 August 2014

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

Alfa Laval

Alfa Laval has won an order to supply compact heat exchangers to an oil production facility in Canada. The order, booked in the Energy & Process segment, has a value of approximately SEK 80 million and delivery is scheduled for 2015. The Alfa Laval compact heat exchangers will be used for heat recovery, providing reused heat in the oil production process, thereby maximising energy efficiency.

Lars Renstrom, President and CEO, Alfa Laval Group said, ‘this is the second large oil and gas related order within a short period of time in North America, confirming our position as a strong supplier of equipment for the demanding applications seen in this industry.’

AVEVA

Braskem has signed a contract with AVEVA to convert the engineering and design data of 12 of its plants to AVEVA PDMS during 2014. This large contract is the results of a successful pilot project executed earlier this year. Braskem chose AVEVA over several other software vendors, attributing their decision to the confidence they had built up in AVEVA’s technology and personnel during the pilot project.

Luis Henrique Barreto, Coordinator of Engineering Systems and Documents, Braskem said, ‘these petrochemical plants were originally designed with software from another company. AVEVA PDMS offers us reliable continuity and the integrity of the original models. Combined with the excellent post sales support and service we receive from AVEVA, this will ensure that the conversion runs smoothly creating high quality models without significant data loss. At the end of the process we will have AVEVA PDMS models for all of our plants, and we can use those models for the design and execution of maintenance and modification projects. The confidence we have in AVEVA and its technology has put us at ease with the process.’

Helmut Schuller, Executive VP of Global Sales, AVEVA, said, ‘we are proud to be working with Braskem on such an exciting large scale project. The migration process must ensure maximum data integrity and our solutions and experience in large scale migrations will ensure we achieve this. We look forward to continuing our work with Braskem and supplying our proven technologies to strengthen their operations. This agreement is a first step in our new relationship and clear evidence of Braskem’s confidence in AVEVA.’

CITGO

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) launched the iWATCH mobile application to promote safety across the metropolitan Houston area. The iWATCH app is the first of its kind and fosters community awareness about unsafe situations by allowing citizens to report crimes and suspicious activities across Harris County from almost any mobile phone or PC. CITGO Marketers and Retailers in Houston have already begun posting flyers in storefronts to promote the use of the app to expand their ongoing efforts to keep the community safe.

GDF Suez

GDF Suez Gas NA (GSGNA) has entered into a purchase agreement with Gaz Metro LNG, L.P. of Montreal that will make available up to 1.0 billion ft3 of additional LNG to meet the peak 2014 – 2015 winter demand in New England. Under the contract, GSGNA will commit to purchase 475 000 ft3 of natural gas over a five month period which began in July this year, with the potential to purchase an additional 500 000 ft3 over the same period. The LNG will be transported by tanker to New England utilities to help meet gas inventory refill requirements. Gas utilities in the region purchase LNG during the summer and into fall to fill aboveground storage tanks. That LNG is then drawn down during cold winter days to meet peak demand needs.

Frank Katulak, President and CEO, GSGNA said, ‘this second annual agreement with Gaz Metro represents an important step in the further diversification of our supply portfolio, as well as an opportunity for us to take advantage of gas purchases on this continent to increase our supply assets, and to continue to ensure reliability to New England when resources can be tight. Additional and reliable supplies such as these will also allow us to cost effectively provide more services to the marketplace by optimising existing natural gas infrastructure in the region.’

Quantum

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. has received a multiple purchase order from Ryder for more than 80 vehicles for Q-Rail and Q-Cab CNG fuel system modules. In May 2014, Quantum and Ryder entered into a long term agreement for the purchase and supply of complete CNG fuel systems for businesses that lease and rent CNG vehicles from Ryder. With the agreement, Ryder will purchase innovative CNG tank systems directly from Quantum and install them on NG powered vehicles using Ryder’s network of certified installation facilities.

TruStar Energy

TruStar Energy has been awarded a contract to upgrade the CNG fuelling station for Kern County Superintendent of Schools bus fleet, in Bakersfield, California. The contract to update and expand the public/private station includes the removal of older compressors and associated infrastructure and replacing that with new state of the art compressors, fuelling hoses, new fuelling dispensers, and a canopy.
