India

Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd has raised crude imports from Iraq’s national oil company. The increase of approximately 65 000 bpd is in force for 2014 and 2015. There are 60 days credit being offered on the purchases, increased from 30 in a previous agreement.

Indonesia

An Indonesian oil firm is looking to partner with an Iranian firm to build a refinery in the country. The plans are being made as the two countries seek to make stronger investment ties and ease sanctions that are currently placed on Iran. Nakhle Barani Paradis, based in Tehran and PT Kreasinso Resources of Indonesia have already signed a memorandum of understanding and are now looking in to the feasibility of the plant.

South Korea

S-Oil Corp. has announced plans to build a R&D centre in Seoul in the next two years. The company are looking to build the centre to increase their competence in the downstream sector as well as the petrochemicals industry.

Thailand

Thai Oil Pcl has announced that its refining capacity will run at 95% capacity during 2014. The reduction in processing capacity is mainly due to a 55 day maintenance period that is set for the company from June of this year. At full capacity, the company processes 275 000 bpd.

USA

On 11th February the US Environmental Protection Agency National Response Centre reportedly received a report of a spill at the ExxonMobile Billings refinery. An unknown quantity of petroleum product was originally reported to have spilled into the Yellowstone River, but it has now been confirmed that less than a gallon was involved in the incident.

An alkylation unit has been shut at the Tesoro Corp. Martinez refinery in the San Francisco Bay area. The unit has been taken offline at the 166 000 bpd facility as two workers were sprayed with sulfuric acid in an accident on 12th February. The two workers were sent to hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
