CHS awards Technip with EPC contract for hydrogen plant

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

Technip has been awarded a contract by CHS Inc. to provide proprietary technology and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for a 40 000 normal m3/h grassroots hydrogen plant at the CHS Refinery in Laurel, Montana, US.

The plant is part of the company’s ongoing upgrades to boost efficiency, increase diesel production and process additional crudes at its refinery.

The design will utilise Technip's high efficiency top-fired steam reforming technology to produce high purity hydrogen and export steam as well as modern nitrogen oxide reduction technology to ensure minimum emissions.

Technip’s operating centre in Claremont, California, US, has estimated the project will be completed in 2017.

Stan Knez, President, Technip Stone & Webster Process Technology, said, "With this key hydrogen project, we are pleased to continue our long term relationship with CHS. The award reinforces Technip’s strategic focus on early involvement in projects with our steam reforming technology as a key differentiator.”

Technip has previously provided a steam reformer and a parallel reformer for the CHS Refinery in Laurel, Montana, US, as well as two hydrogen projects for the CHS Refinery in McPherson, Kansas, US.
