News from the Americas
Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has won a contract from LyondellBasell petrochemical company. The contract will span nearly three years and is for engineering and support services for changer being made at a manufacturing site in The Netherlands.
Braskem, SA. Brazil is in talks with Sunoco Inc. to purchase their petrochemical assets. It is reported that Braskem is offering US$ 400 million for the assets.
News from Oman
Aromatic Oman LLC has completed a plant performance test run. The successful run has achieved all guarantees from process licensor Axens, EPC contractor GS Engineering and a South Korean construction company. The facility can produce paraxylene and benzene as well as light naphtha and byproducts such as heavy aromatics.
News from Iran
Six petrochemical projects in the Assaluyeh, Bushehr province in Iran came online on 9th February 2010. The inauguration ceremony of the US$ 2 billion investments was attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
In total the six projects will be able to contribute 3.14 million tpy to the country’s petrochemical output. The projects included a methanol unit at Zagros Petrochemical Complex, petrochemicals export terminal at Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, butadiene unit at Jam Petrochemical Complex and ethylbenzene and styrene monomer units at Pars Petrochemical Complex.
