Hydrocarbon Engineering,

Bahrain

CB&I has announced that Chevron Lummus Global, a joint venture between CB&I and Chevron has been awarded a contract in excess of US$ 100 million by Bahrain Petroleum Co. (Bapco). The scope of work includes the license of its LCFINING and ISOCRACKING technologies and engineering design packages for the new residue hydrocracking and vacuum gasoil hydrocracking units for the Bapco Modernisation Program.

Daniel McCarthy, President, CB&I’s Technology Operating Group said, ‘CLG has provided hydroprocessing technologies and catalysts for production of clean transportation fuels and high quality lubricant based oils at this refinery for past projects. The Bapco Modernisation Program will expand the Bapco refinery capacity and introduce further depth of conversion and upgrading of heavy oil. The selection by Bapco to be its key technology provider underlines CB&I and CLG’s lead position in heavy oil upgrading.’

China

CB&I has been awarded a contract by Shenhau Ningxia Coal Industry Group Co. Ltd. for the license and engineering design of a polypropylene unit to be built in Lingqu, Tinchuan City, Ningxia, China. The unit will use CB&I’s Novolen technology to produce 600 000 tpy of polypropylene. There are already two units utilising Novolen technology on site, each with cascade and parallel production lines. At the completion of this third unit, the capacity on site will be increased to 1.6 million tpy and the plant will be able to produce the full range of polypropylene grades.

Daniel McCarthy, President, CB&I’s Technology Operating Group said, ‘once the third polypropylene unit at Shenhua Ningxia’s site is running, it will be the largest polypropylene site in China. This site will also have the largest capacity of any of the Novolen technology licensees.’

As previously announced, Shenhua Ningxia also awarded CB&I contracts for the license and engineering design of the Olefins Conversion Technology, Comonomer Production Technology, CDHydro selective hydrogenation technology and CDIsis technology for this same complex.
